The Columbia at the Waterfront

This 331,000 SF building spans more than an acre along the Columbia River in the newly-revitalized Block 20 of downtown Vancouver, Washington. The seven-story, 248-unit community offers luxury amenities, including a rooftop infinity pool with stunning riverfront views, resident lounge with games and grills, state-of-the-art fitness center, ground-floor conveniences and two levels of private, underground parking. Due to the complex’s 60-foot proximity to the region’s largest river, this site posed early challenges, such as contaminated soil and a high water table. The polluted soil was hauled to a certified landfill. The building was engineered to bear full weight of the seven-story structure located just 60 feet from the Columbia River. Stabilization solutions our team used include rigid inclusion piers, a bathtub with flood ports in the basement, and soil-embedded tie-backs to provide stabilization during construction.
