Rogue Credit Union Community Complex
This 140,000 SF recreational facility features a natatorium, a sports complex that doubles as an event center and athletic classrooms. The aquatics facility has indoor recreational and competition pools, two waterslides, an outdoor splashpad play area and more. The pool room’s unique roof is comprised of cross-laminated timber, 105-foot glulam beams and bow-string trusses. The 76,000 SF multiuse building includes eight indoor basketball courts that can be converted to 16 volleyball courts or 32 pickleball courts. The space can also be utilized for full- or partial-room events by pulling the divider curtains across to create smaller sections. The two main buildings are connected via a central corridor containing bathrooms, locker rooms, offices, a dance studio and more. Several challenges were encountered early on, including issues with the site’s soil. But Pence’s project team collaborated with the structural engineer and subcontractors to identify and implement solutions, such as adding aggregate piers to stabilize the foundation. The Rogue Credit Union Community Complex (RCUCC), or “Rogue X” as the community calls it, is the city of Medford’s largest building project in history.
