Department of Administrative Services Executive Building
The renovation of this 63,000-square-foot government building in Salem modernized a historically significant structure while preserving its character. Originally built in 1936 as a post office, minimal updates had been made prior to this project. The renovation strengthened seismic resilience with reinforced footings, shotcrete shear walls and steel reinforcements, ensuring long-term structural stability. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems were upgraded for improved efficiency, and fireproofing enhancements bolstered safety measures.
To integrate the two distinct structures into a seamless space, the project team carefully coordinated MEP system installations, as well as structural reinforcements, while maintaining the building’s historic exterior marble facade. A new office layout was unveiled as a prototype for future state office spaces with the goal of fostering collaboration and efficiency. Additional improvements included secure entry points and the installation of 10 electric vehicle charging stations to promote sustainability.
