Gardiner Middle School

This 150,000 SF school replacement was constructed adjacent to the existing, operational school to support a growing population of 1,000 students. It featured learning stairs, learning pods, wellness halls, gender-neutral restrooms and changing rooms, along with ADA accessibility upgrades, including an elevator. Once the new facility was operational, the old structure was demolished, a new sports field was built and associated site work was completed. The planning process was largely student-driven, with middle schoolers comprising approximately one-third of the Design Committee. The Oregon City School District partnered with these young, valuable stakeholders to provide input on reimagining the traditional educational model. Green initiatives included a solar array and swale pond for water retention. Pence helped the District establish and achieve a 20% MWESB goal through multiple bid packages, early timing and utilization of our extensive network of qualified subcontractors.
