Larkspur Community Center

Bend Park & Recreation District wanted to add recreation and aquatic space to their community offerings. The existing BPRD Larkspur Senior Center was also ripe for upgrades. The District elected to expand Larkspur’s footprint and add services for all age groups to the senior center. Pence was selected as general contractor in 2018 and brought the project to completion in August of 2020. The result is Larkspur Community Center, a combined 50,000 square foot space featuring a separate upgraded Senior Center wing, a 5,000 square foot warm water pool and an adjacent lazy river and spa. Pence partnered with Colorado architect Barker Rinker Seacat who ultimately selected the Italian-made Myrtha pool system for its accuracy, longevity and low maintenance features. An indoor walk/jog track, fitness areas, changing rooms, locker rooms, admin space, and lobby complete BPRD’s largest project to date. Site terrain included large pine trees, native to the Central Oregon region, that required removal. Our team extracted and donated their byproduct in the form of a feature wall inside the space to highlight the local landscape beauty. The project marks Pence’s fourth natatorium and our largest Central Oregon project to date.
