Orchards Supply Hardware
At over 40,000 square feet, the new Orchard Supply Hardware store resides in NE Portland’s old Hollywood Bowl building on Halsey Street, which occupies an entire city block near the Hollywood Transit Center and MAX station. The building’s design incorporates elements from the old bowling alley site, including wood from the original lanes which was re-purposed and is on display picturing the iconic Hollywood Theater. Local artist Loey Hargrove of Left Ear Studio created a custom mural on the storefront which exemplifies the artistic spirit that is Portland.
The project consisted of complete exterior and interior demo of the old Hollywood bowling alley. The Scope of work on the roof included opening up 47 holes and installing domed skylights. The scope for the exterior included a new layer of plywood, seismic strapping and angle attachments to the entire perimeter of the outer wall. The interior scope consisted of polishing and staining all existing concrete floors to OSH standards. A large concrete ramp was constructed joining the two floors. The main sales floor included a nursery with fenced areas opening up the space to the exterior. A small addition was added to the front of the building for outdoor/indoor sales.
