Woodlark Hotel

In the heart of downtown Portland, Pence combined the Woodlark and Cornelius Hotel buildings over a period of 21 months. Both buildings required major seismic improvements. The Cornelius required improvement to 125% of current code, due to its size and location relative to the Woodlark building.

This building is constructed of brick bearing exterior walls, heavy timber framing, and light wood framing infill.  The entire building was lined with shotcrete, and was given a new concrete stair and elevator core, founded on a completely new system of footings.  The Woodlark is laterally improved by a new system of concrete shear walls surrounding its new elevator core.

The 90,000 square-foot project transformed the buildings into a vibrant 150-room luxury 4-star hotel. This sophisticated hotel has a unique style, accented by a new restaurant, coffee bar, lounge, meeting rooms, and workout facility.
